What is the play Clarkston about?
When Jake’s boyfriend dumps him and he receives a life-changing diagnosis, he flees his liberal home town looking for a new start. Finding himself in the rural backwater of Clarkston in the Midwest, Jake decides to stick around and begins working in a Costco. There, he finds a kindred spirit in Chris, a closeted writer with a troubled home life, who dreams of going to college. As the two work a night shift together, they grapple with identity, family, relationships, and how you chase your dreams when it feels like life has presented you with a dead end.

Joe Locke is an Emmy-nominated British actor, best known for his breakout role as Charlie Spring in the groundbreaking Netflix show Heartstopper. Locke’s other credits include Marvel and Disney+ series Agatha All Along, The Trials at the Donmar Warehouse and Sweeney Todd at the Lunt Fontaine Theatre on Broadway. Locke is a Queerty and What's on Stage award winner.
Ruaridh Mollica is a Scottish actor, writer and director. Mollica is a British Independent Film Award nominee, and in 2024 he was named as one of Screen International's Rising Stars Scotland. His credits include BIFA-nominated film Sebastian, Sexy Beast, Tell it to the Bees, The Franchise and Scottish BAFTA-winning short film Too Tough.
Sophie Melville is a Welsh actor. She is a The Stage Award winner and Evening Standard and Drama Desk nominee. Melville is best known for her roles in Iphigenia in Splott at The Sherman Festival Theatre, The Pleasance Edinburgh and The National Theatre, The Divide at The Old Vic and in the West End, Wolfie at Theatre503, Cowbois at the Royal Court Theatre, and The Pact for BBC One.

A really immersive, interesting piece of work. I hadn't looked into what it was beforehand, but this cast were just incredible. The staging was really clever, and the lighting and sound design really made it an incredible watch.
