Odette has been cursed by Rothbart, an evil sorcerer, to live as a swan by day and human form by night, but only by the enchanted lake. The curse can only be broken if Odette finds love from a pure man. Enter young Prince Siegfried, beguiled and tricked into marrying Rothbart’s daughter Odile, who is made to look like Odette. It’s a tragic love story, not unlike Romeo & Juliet. The two leads were mesmerising, with the grace, purity and elegance in Odette’s dance in contrast with the drama, darkness and intensity in Odile’s dance. This bought out the love in Prince Siegfried when he danced with Odette, and desire when he danced with Odile. The swan formations in Acts II and IV were just beautiful, graceful and stunning until the extra added drama with Rothbart’s voluminous costume and wings bringing an ominous foreboding as he flaps away the mood setting dry ice. There is so much to see and take in, especially in Acts I and III where more of the storyline unfolds on the side of Prince Siegfried, which take place in the palace. Read more
