Following a sold-out run Off-Broadway, the multi-award-winning Fleabag makes itself at home at the West End’s Wyndham’s Theatre. This will be the last ever run for writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s exceptional production. Waller-Bridge will also star, reprising the role which she has played on both stage and screen. Originally produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Vicky Jones and Francesca Moody’s DryWrite, Fleabag previewed at London’s Soho Theatre before making its 2013 Edinburgh Festival debut. Since then, the piece has been performed across the UK, South Korea and Australia. Highly decorated, it counts a Fringe First and The Stage Best Solo Performer Award among its accolades. In 2016, it was translated into a BBC Three and Amazon Prime Video TV series. Waller-Bridge, who starred in the programme, was awarded a BAFTA for Best Female Comedy Performance.
Fleabag dances on the intersection between laughter and pain. It’s a look at one woman struggling to stay afloat amid an emotionally miserly family and inadequate relationships, all the while pursued by the blackest of memories. Turning to sex as a way to forget, she is an astonishingly observed study of a woman masking her fragility with a wicked sense of humour.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s stellar writing credentials were cemented when she wrote and created the first season of TV series Killing Eve, earning herself Emmy, Golden Globe and BAFTA TV nominations. She’s also one of the co-writers for the upcoming James Bond film.
The production is directed by Vicky Jones and produced by DryWrite, Soho Theatre and Annapurna Theatre. Jones is the National Theatre's Playwright in Residence. Her directorial credits include Mydidae and Touch.
