Bloodshed, prophecies and dragons: this epic prequel play to the beloved book and TV series transfers to London.

Game of Thrones: The Mad King in London

Game of Thrones: The Mad King comes to London following a sell-out run at the Royal Shakespeare Company, Stratford-upon-Avon. Set in the world of George RR Martin’s landmark fantasy novel series, this prequel stage play reveals a brand new chapter in Westerosi history - featuring plenty of familiar faces. This “extraordinary moment of theatre” (WhatsonStage) is unmissable. The venue for this transfer is to be announced, so set an alert for further information today.

What Is the Game of Thrones Play About?

As a long winter thaws in Harrenhal, lovers meet, and revellers place their bets on who will win at tomorrow's jousting banquet. But beneath the revelry, there is discord, as a group of dissenters grow uneasy at the bloodshed enacted in the name of the merciless Mad King, Aerys Targaryen. Spring may be on the horizon, but so is treason as plots are hatched - and in the distance, the drums of battle begin to sound...

As ancient prophecies, family loyalty and the sacred line of succession are called into question, dangerous power plays are made. Who will survive, who will rise, and whose story will win out over the decades?

Enter the world before the books, with this original story set in the universe of Westeros, a decade before the beloved series begins, featuring familiar characters from the houses of Targaryen, Stark, Lannister, Baratheon and Martell as you’ve never seen them before.
