The History of The Popinjay Cavalier
While The Popinjay Cavalier is Tarantino’s first official stage project, he is no stranger to the theatre, having previously performed as an actor in Wait Until Dark on Broadway. Tarantino has also worked on stage adaptations of some of his most popular works, including The Hateful Eight, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Reservoir Dogs. However, none of these projects ultimately came to fruition.
The West End production is the world premiere of this new play. Tarantino first announced he was writing the project in 2025 and stated that if it was well-received, he might adapt it into his tenth and final film, having previously confirmed he plans to retire from filmmaking after making 10 films.
