English National Ballet’s Giselle Tickets On Sale Now

Mary Skeaping’s haunting and beautiful production of Giselle returns to the West End for a strictly limited season, taking audiences on a heart-rending journey of dance and tragedy at the London Coliseum. Skeaping’s striking ballet is a “bewitching” (The Daily Telegraph) triumph that will leave you breathless as its story of love that transcends the boundaries of death unfolds on stage. Following a hit season and flurry of five-star reviews in 2024, it returns to the stage for one week only in 2025.

What is the Giselle ballet about?

Young peasant girl Giselle is in love with Albrecht, a Duke who has concealed his title and is secretly engaged to another woman. When his duplicity is exposed, Giselle descends into madness and dies of a broken heart. The Wilis, a vengeful sisterhood of betrayed brides, gather at her graveside in the dead of night and welcome her into their cult. Will Giselle’s love protect Albrecht from the Wilis’ fury, or will he be forced to dance to his death?

This otherwordly story of passion and vengeance features music by Adolphe Adams, a French composer known for ballets including Le corsaire. His richly atmospheric score, famously composed in just three weeks, is heavily influenced by the Romantic movement and pulls theatregoers into bewildering depths alongside the show’s tragic heroine.

Giselle Ballet Creative Team

This enthralling and emotional production of Giselle is set to Adam’s score, performed live by the internationally acclaimed English National Ballet Philharmonic.

Mary Skeaping’s ethereal production is “packed with lively detail and terrific suspense” (Arts Desk), and features some of the most visually striking and memorable scenes in the genre. Her celebrated choreography takes audiences from the optimistic imagery of Giselle’s sun-kissed village into a menacing world bathed in moonlight and mystery.

The sets were lovely and added atmosphere to the production. Dancing was good as you would expect from the English national ballet company. The story was told very clearly through dance and actions. A full orchestra playing was definitely a bonus!
