Harold Pinter Theatre Seat Guide

The Harold Pinter Theatre London has a capacity of 837 seats. Section capacities are 416 Stalls, 121 Dress Circle, 145 Royal Circle and 155 Balcony. Use our interactive seating plan to view 5558 seat reviews and 4058 view from seat photos.

The Harold Pinter Theatre is a mid-sized venue with a classic proscenium arch layout, arranged across four main levels: the Stalls, Dress Circle, Royal Circle and Balcony. There are standing spaces at the back of the Royal Circle and Balcony, and Boxes on the Dress and Royal Circle levels. Its size makes it particularly well-suited to the intimate detail of prestige drama, although some architectural features can affect sightlines.

Support pillars are dotted throughout the Stalls (Rows B, J and M), Dress Circle (Row C) and Royal Circle (Rows A and B) with varying degrees of restriction depending on your seat. In the rear Stalls, for example, the combined effect of a pillar, shallow rake, and the Dress Circle overhang can significantly impact the view. Seats in the Dress Circle or the front of the Royal Circle tend to offer a clearer overall view with fewer heads in the way.

The Royal Circle and Balcony feel more distant than the lower levels, with sound less clear towards the rear. The Balcony in particular is steep with safety rails cutting into eyelines, while the curve of the Royal Circle creates side-on views for around five seats at either end. Some seats, particularly those against the wall in the Dress Circle, may also feel slightly enclosed.

Tips from SeatPlan Members

  • The Dress Circle overhang starts from Stalls Row L, and the view can feel “compact” in the back rows (markeastaugh in Stalls R1)
  • Always check reviews of restricted view seats before you book - users like rhiev in Royal Circle D7 give great insight into the pillars!
  • Seats at either end of the Dress Circle are next to a wall. Not ideal for comfort or legroom, says andrewf16 in Dress Circle E1
  • If you’re short, choose the Dress Circle over rear Stalls, says simonb63 in Stalls N21

Good value seats

Due to the pillars in this theatre, many seats are often discounted due to being restricted view. Occasionally these seats can be worth the risk. However, it is worth sitting in the Balcony for a distant, but overall clear, view.

Premium seats

Due to the height of the stage, the best seats in the Stalls are in the centre rows, just before the Dress Circle begins to overhang. The second row of the Dress Circle is also an excellent choice for those looking for premium views.
