Following a critically-acclaimed season at the National Theatre and a UK tour, Jane Eyre returns to the Lyttelton Theatre this September. Charlotte Brontë’s masterpiece is brought to life on stage in this incredible collaboration between the National Theatre and Bristol Old Vic. Director Sally Cookson captures the powerful gothic drama of the original novel in this stunning proto-feminist tale.

The play follows the story of Jane, a smart, unbreakable young woman forging a determined path through the harsh Victorian world. From young age our heroin battles against vicious guardians, brutal orphanage custodians and the untimely deaths of the ones she loves.

Emerging into adulthood she finds herself in the employ of the elusive Mr Rochester, within the walls of the forbidding Thornfield Hall. Strange occurrences and supposed supernatural intrigue act as a compelling backdrop to this iconic gothic love story.

After a critically-acclaimed run as a two-part production at the Bristol Old Vic, Sally Cookson’s now condensed version of Jane Eyre makes its way to the National Theatre. Cookson’s thrilling adaptation perfectly harnesses Brontë’s beautiful coming of age narrative.

Cookson is joined by an incredible creative team, including dramaturgy from Mike Akers, set design by Michael Vale, costume design by Katie Sykes and lighting design by Aideen Malone. Benji Bower is the composer on the project, creating an integral score that uplifts the evolving narrative. Sound design is provided by Dominic Bilkey, with movement coordination by Dan Canham.

Nadia Clifford (Pamona, Hobson’s Choice) stars as Jane Eyre, supported by an tremendous ensemble, featuring Hannah Bristow, Matthew Churcher, Ben Cutler, Tim Delap, Alex Heane, Jenny Johns, Melanie Marshall, Evelyn Miller, Paul Mundell, Dami Olukoya, David Ridley, Lynda Rooke, Francesca Tomlinson and Phoebe Vigor.

This powerful production returns to the National Theatre for a limited run from the 26th September to the 21st of October 2017.

Went to watch Network and it was one of the most unique theatre shows I have ever experienced - not quite sure how to put it into words, really! Bryan Cranston was electric to watch and the set was very cool. This is definitely one of Ivo van Hove's Read more

An enjoyable adaptation played with gusto by an excellent cast. This was a good team effort with many actors playing multiple parts. The setting is spartan but imaginatively used to depict different scenes. However, I did feel that the play was a tad Read more
