King Lear Tickets

Wyndham's Theatre

Kenneth Branagh directs and stars in Shakespeare’s towering, tragic tale for just 50 performances this year.

Kenneth Branagh ascends the throne

Star of stage and screen Kenneth Branagh is crowned as Shakespeare’s ultimate tragic figure in King Lear at Wyndham's Theatre. This staggering tale of a monarch brought low is back in the West End for just 50 performances.

When ailing King Lear calls his daughters to his side, he intends to divide his kingdom between them, with the largest share going to whomever proclaims to love him most. But when his youngest daughter Cordelia refuses to submit, he is forced to banish her. Lear soon finds himself caught in a storm of tragic events, as the people he held most dearly betray him.

Shakespeare’s play pricks at the heart of humanity with its haunting story of an elderly man losing grip of his power and the people he loves.

Director and star Branagh’s name is synonymous with Shakespeare, and he has performed in number of the playwright’s works including Hamlet, Much Ado About Nothing and Henry V. He now takes on one of theatre’s most isolated figures, in a performance that promises to be unmissable.

Experience this powerful, elemental tale performed by one of our greatest modern actors with King Lear tickets.

Mixed reviews but I really enjoyed it. I suppose purists would know if liberties were taken or speeches cut, but I don't know the play that well and to me it moved along like a good modern drama. I think the role could be played all sorts of ways a Read more

I really enjoyed Kenneth Branagh's staging and direction - as well as his acting. The set was dynamic and gave a sense of the age in which the play is set - which I’d never had from seeing Lear before. The costumes & spears also brought home the sens Read more

Very accessible Shakespeare led by Kenneth Branagh performing in his element. Not the rawest production but choreo and acting was fab with some great gutteral performances. Not the best but very good all the same
