La Boheme Tickets

Four artists are living an impoverished but joyful life in the Latin Quarter of Paris when a knock on the door disturbs them. Mimi, another tenant in the building, has no more matches and her candle has blown out. This fateful meeting is the beginning of a timeless, epic story of love and loss. Jonathan Miller’s 2014 production of Puccini’s La Boheme returns to the English National Opera's London Coliseum this winter to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the director’s ENO debut. The four-act opera begins in the bitter cold of a Parisian winter, where a group of artists living together have run out of fuel for their fire. When one of them arrives with money, food and wine to celebrate the completion of a music performance, they decide to indulge at the café nearby. One of them, Rodolfo, lags behind and he meets Mimi, a poorly woman also living in the building. Their love proceeds to blossom, as does her illness. Jonathan Miller began directing opera in the 1970's, with The Marriage of Figaro marking his first ENO production in 1978. He later went on to create successful productions in opera, theatre and television, such as The Merchant of Venice starring Laurence Olivier, BBC Television Shakespeare and The Mikado. Alexander Joel and Valentina Peleggi conduct the opera, with the design team including Isabella Bywater, Keven Sleep and translations by Amanda Holden. Casting includes Natalya Romaniw as Mimi and Jonathan Tetelman as Rodolfo, as well as David Soar, David Ireland, Nicholas Lester, Božidar Smiljanić, Nadine Benjamin and Matthew Durkan. La Boheme is updated to 1930's Paris by Miller, proving the story’s timelessness and appeal across generations. Sung in English by some of the world’s best performers, the production runs at the West End's London Coliseum for a strictly limited season, playing from 26 November 2018.
