What Is the Musical Nevermore About?
Nevermore is a unique theatrical experience which combines haunting music and poetic storytelling to share the fascinating story of Edgar Allan Poe, an iconic American writer in the 1800s. Poe struggled with many things in his life, like tragedy, addiction, poverty and loss, but produced some of the world’s most enduring literature before he died at the age of 40 in unexplained circumstances. Brought to the stage by Catalyst Theatre, Nevermore blurs the line between fact and fiction to shine a light on the events that shaped Poe’s character and career.
The History of Nevermore
The musical was originally produced by the Canadian company Catalyst Theatre in 2009 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Edgar Allan Poe’s birth. Nevermore then went on to be commissioned by the Magnetic Theatre Festival and received its New York City premiere at the New Victory Theatre. The production went on to have an Off-Broadway run at the New World Stages in 2015; now Nevermore makes its UK debut in a summer run at the Charing Cross Theatre in 2027.
