What Is We Have Always Lived in the Castle About?

In an old house, behind a high gate, the Blackwoods live. Though there were once seven of them, now there are only three…

Agoraphobic Constance, her eighteen-year-old sister Merricat, and their bewildered Uncle Julian must stay inside and enjoy the peace of their isolation, with Merricat’s strange, but resourceful plans, and “Web of Protection” to keep them safe from enemies in the outside world. But six years of peace are soon to be shattered, as their Cousin Charles comes knocking, having heard rumours of a hidden Blackwood fortune…

The History of We Have Always Lived in the Castle

The novel has been previously adapted for screen in 2018, starring Sebastian Stan and Crispin Glover, and for stage in 1966 by Playwright Hugh Wheeler, a Broadway production that closed after only 11 performances.
