Where to Sit… If It’s Your First Time
If it’s your first time seeing Avenue Q, you’ll want to make sure your seats are really “Special”. Customers rated all areas of the theatre, but found that sitting centrally in the Stalls from rows F-P (usually priced from £102-£174) offered a really good view of the stage.

It’s worth noting that while many customers rated the rake, some customers did find the rake to be a little bit shallow in the Stalls area, so it’s worth bearing this in mind if your stature is more Gary Coleman than Trekkie Monster!
“Great seat, perfect view, no overhang from balcony, good rake, rows offset. Would sit here again.” – User Toriegrayling, Stalls P25
Customers also highly rated seats in the centre of the Royal Circle (usually priced at £102-£174), and found that the tiering here resolved any rake issues that might arise in the Stalls.
“The view is perfect from this seat. You can see the entire stage and everything that is going on due to the angle – someone in front would have to be really tall to spoil your view.” – User Hannah10, Royal Circle H17
There are screens which are utilised a couple of times during the show, placed upstage left and downstage right. These can be seen from most areas of the theatre. One customer stated of Row C in the Stalls:
“You can see in the wings at times, but also close for the occasional screens.” – User Carldarling, Stalls C12
There’s also a moment high up on the stage, when one character visits the Empire State Building, which can be slightly obstructed if you’re sitting under the overhang in the rear of the Stalls or Royal Circle, so we’d potentially advise avoiding these seats for a first-time visit. Finally, there are some fun moments of interaction with the puppets in this show, so first timers may want to prioritise seats that allow for this…
Where to Sit… For Puppet Interactions
Avenue Q features a couple of fun moments of interaction during the numbers “The Internet Is for P*rn” and “The Money Song”. These are fairly minor during “The Internet Is for P*rn”, but those sitting in the front few rows of the Stalls (generally priced around £35 for Row A or £90 for Row B) might get a moment of being singled out by Trekkie Monster during the song, which can either be a fun bonus, or truly mortifying, depending on how you look at it!

There’s a bit more interaction during “The Money Song”, when several characters from the show come directly into the audience to ask for, you guessed it, money! Customers sitting on the central aisle in the Stalls Row A should be aware that a staircase will be lowered during this number for the cast members to use, so they won’t be able to leave their seats. Customers sitting in the affected seats will be fully notified of how and when this will happen by the Front of House staff upon arrival.
“In the second half, the cast briefly walks around the seat, and a small staircase comes out into the aisle.” – User Megand13, Stalls A19
Don’t worry, you’re not actually obligated to give them anything, but this extra little bit of interaction can add to the experience if you’re sitting on the aisles in the centre of the Stalls or the Royal Circle (prices for both ranging from £75-£174 for clear view seats).
“The characters run past at one point, and it just helps you feel part of the show.” – User Hannahh10, Royal Circle H17/18
Where to Sit… If You’re Looking for a Bargain
With the Grand Circle – the top tier of Shaftesbury Theatre – closed until early 2027, it’s currently much easier to find good-value tickets than usual. The lowest-priced seats are now located in the Royal Circle rather than higher up.

The cheapest clear-view seats in the house are toward the rear of the Royal Circle, priced at £51. Customers found they had a great view of the stage from these seats, and could see facial expressions (both human and puppet) well.
“Really good seat, was sceptical with it being at the back/side but could see everything, even the puppets’ expressions!”
-User Ogjab8, Royal Circle K33
Bargain seats can also be found in the very front row of the Stalls, priced at £35. Theatregoers report that despite the slightly high stage, it was mostly just performers’ feet that were missed, or scenes where the characters were lying down.
“Sold, for this show… as restricted view, high stage, but actually the stage wasn’t all that high, especially with the big gap between it and Row A, so although you have to look upwards at some points, it really wasn’t an issue. Great view of all onstage action!”
– User ElviraCondomine, Stalls A15
There are also some cheaper seats at the very back of the Stalls, priced around £35-£51. These are sold as restricted view due to the overhang of the Circle above, but this only obscures one specific moment in the show for Avenue Q.
Where to Sit… For the Best Seats Money Can Buy
The Shaftesbury Theatre is relatively small, particularly as the Upper Circle level is closed for refurbishment, so excellent views can be found throughout the auditorium. Top-priced seats are located in the centre Stalls and the Royal Circle (both usually priced at £144-£174).

These seats received five-star reviews for comfort and view, with customers stating that stalls row H:
“Had a great view and was very comfortable. Great legroom!”
– User BwayBoy
And of the Royal Circle Row B:
“Absolutely brilliant view of the stage.” – User Razzthedazz
Seats on the central aisle in both the Stalls and Royal Circle also got particularly glowing reviews – customers did flag that rows throughout the auditorium in all areas of the Shaftesbury Theatre can be a bit narrow, so these aisle seats offer a bit of extra legroom for taller people.
Seats to Avoid, According to Our Users
We also looked into where not to sit, weighing up reviews for where to avoid. But just remember, there’s a “fine fine line” when choosing seats, and reviews are highly subjective – someone’s “fantasy comes true” seat could be your absolute nightmare!

Seats towards the rear of the Stalls (priced at £35-£51) and the Royal Circle (usually priced at £51) are slightly obstructed due to the overhang of the Circles above. The overhang begins around Row P in the Stalls, but only obstructs the view from Row W backwards, while only the very back row of the Circle is affected.
Customers didn’t find the overhang a huge issue for Avenue Q, as there’s only one brief scene high up on the stage that is affected, and the character in question narrates everything that happens. If you want to get the full experience of the show, however, you might want to avoid these areas, with the rear Stalls being affected slightly more.
“There was one moment that I didn’t catch the full scale of but I ducked down a bit and was able to see all of it.”
– User Epollar, Royal Circle L14
Most customers rated the views from all areas of the auditorium, so it’s worth taking into consideration things like legroom and comfort when figuring out where to avoid.
Some theatregoers would advise avoiding the front row in the Stalls at the Shaftesbury (usually priced around £35), due to the slightly high stage, stating that feet were cut off and that they were:
“Sometimes unable to see if anyone is lying on the stage.”
– –User JadeK9
Other customers, however, really rated these seats as they didn’t mind looking up throughout the show, and found the legroom tolerable, particularly on the aisle. Many of our users thought these seats were worth the price and the extra little bit of audience interaction they afford.
Finally, tall customers also might want to steer clear of Row A in the Royal Circle (usually priced at around £108). As well as having some restrictions on sightlines in certain seats due to safety rails, customers reported the legroom was generally a bit tight here, but that they overall enjoyed the view.
Where to Sit… For Hidden Gem Seats
Customers found they enjoyed sitting to the left of the stage, toward the end of the rows in the Stalls, particularly in Row N (generally priced around £108).

Due to the angle, this helped them feel more immersed in the puppetry, with one customer stating:
“A lot of the puppeteers in this show are right-handed too, so a lot of the time you only see the puppet, and because they’re so talented, you forget the puppeteer is there.”– User RIVMIK
Although they did advise that the view may be obstructed by other customers when sitting in these seats.
Several theatregoers rated the back of the Stalls for Avenue Q, despite the overhang. Row Y offers bargain seats (usually priced around £35), with only a slight, brief obstruction at the top of the stage.
“For Avenue Q, you won’t miss any plot essentials or much that matters, and if you lean right forward, you can get the gist of what is happening. Honestly, these were such a bargain, but for other shows with more visuals or high scenes, I would avoid these!”
– User Elm9, Stalls Y15
Customers also rated the Boxes, which are sold as a restricted view (prices ranging from £96-£108), stating they found the restrictions in the front Boxes fairly minimal for the cost. They also enjoyed how movable the seats were, which gave extra leg room (particularly if no one else has booked the same Box!).
“I had the whole box to myself. Can’t complain about the legroom, the chairs are moveable. You can also improve the view by doing so. The view to the right part of the stage was slightly restricted.”
– User Summbrummsl
