Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas Tickets
Lyric Hammersmith
Storytelling and puppetry combine to create Pins and Needles Productions' glorious Father Christmas, based on the classic Raymond Briggs' Christmas book.
Theatre company Pins and Needles Productions return to the Lyric Hammersmith with their staging of Raymond Briggs' classic Christmas book Father Christmas. Storytelling, puppetry and stunning design bring the North Pole to life with colour and vibrancy, creating a world especially for children under six.
Raymond Briggs’ picture book Father Christmas takes a rather different view of the red suited character that we usually imagine as perpetually jolly and surrounded by elves. This Father Christmas is lonesome and grumpy, with only a few animals to help him with his annual endeavour of delivering gifts to all the children of the world. Things don’t always go as they should, and Cat and Dog aren’t particularly helpful, but another Christmas passes with everyone receiving their presents in this charming story full of adventure.
Director Emma Earle is the co-Artistic Director of Pins and Needles and an Associate Artist of the egg, as well as Associate Director of Les Infants Terribles. She recently directed Flies at the Tobacco Factory and Edinburgh Fringe, Holly & Ivan’s Christmas Adventures for the Lyric Hammersmith and Earnest and the Pale Moon at the Pleasance Theatre. The original production was designed by Zoe Squire, with music by Lucy Rivers, puppet design by Max Humphries, lighting by George Ogilvie and dramaturgy provided by Adam Peck.
This wonderful story has just the right amount of adventure for little ones, keeping them entertained but without frightening them. It’s a great show for young families’ Christmas traditions, running for a limited festive season from 21 November to 30 December 2018.
