Discover one of the UK’s most exciting new musicals, Standing at the Sky’s Edge at the Gillian Lynne Theatre. Both a love letter to Sheffield, and a deeply heartfelt reflection on modern Britain, this stunning show opens in the West End after three sell-out seasons in Sheffield and London - and has been called “the best British musical in decades” (Daily Express)!

What is Standing at the Sky’s Edge about?

Poppy wants to get away from her old life, Joy and Jimmy want to spend the rest of their lives together, and Rose and Harry are desperate for the life they’ve been promised. On one estate, the hopes and dreams of three generations echo amidst the stairwells and concrete towers.

Modern Britain has never been as compelling as in Standing at the Sky’s Edge, a love letter to Sheffield and a deeply intimate portrait of community and the places we call home, all told within the walls of the famous Park Hill housing estate.

Featuring songs by Sheffield native Richard Hawley, playwright Chris Bush’s musical premiered at the Crucible Theatre in 2019 and returned for a second season in 2022. It has since travelled south for a sold-out run at the National Theatre ahead of its West End transfer, and won the 2022 Olivier Award for Best New Musical.
