The faded glamour of Old Hollywood returns to the West End for 16 weeks only in a thrilling revival of Sunset Boulevard at the Savoy Theatre, starring Nicole Scherzinger. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony Award-winning musical is reimagined by director Jamie Lloyd for a brand new generation of theatregoers.

What is Sunset Boulevard about?

On Sunset Boulevard, former goddess of silent film Norma Desmond sits in her decaying mansion and wonders where it all went wrong. As new starlets take her place, she dreams of staging a comeback that will get everyone talking, and puts her faith in struggling screenwriter Joe to make it happen.

Sunset Boulevard, based on the 1950 film of the same name, is one of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most captivating musicals, with songs including “As If We Never Said Goodbye” and “With One Look” perfectly capturing the tragedy, romance and glamour of Norma’s search for a second chance. The original Broadway production won six Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Original Score.

Nicole Scherzinger in Sunset Boulevard

Singer and musical theatre star Nicole Scherzinger stars as Norma Desmond in this high-profile revival.

Scherzinger is best known as a member of the US girl group The Pussycat Dolls, but also has a background in musical theatre. She made her West End debut in the 2014 revival of Cats and was nominated for an Olivier Award for her performance as Grizabella.

On Monday evenings and other selected performances, Rachel Tucker (Come From Away; Wicked) will guest star as Norma Desmond.

Previous actors to take on the towering role of Norma include Glenn Close and Patti LuPone.

Olivier Award-winning director Jamie Lloyd, who is known for his striking, minimalist approaches to classic plays such as Betrayal and Cyrano de Bergerac, leads this hotly-anticipated revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical, which has a book & lyrics by Tony Award winner Don Black (Tell Me On A Sunday) and Academy Award nominee Christopher Hampton (Atonement).

Andrew Lloyd Webber himself needs little introduction, as one of the most prolific and awarded composers in musical theatre history. His other work includes Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Evita.
