What Is the Play The Apology About?

In a blistering act of theatrical imagination, V conjures her dead father to bring him to account. In this powerfully moving, deeply personal, ritualistic piece of drama, dedicated all the women who are still owed an apology, the father must face the abuse he inflicted upon V as a child.

This production marks the show's world premiere.

The Creative Team of The Apology

The Apology is written by and performed by V. A Tony and Obie Award winner, she is best known for creating The Vagina Monologues, a series of short monologues centring the female experience, which The New York times dubbed "probably the most important piece of political theater of the last decade”. The Vagina Monologues soon became a global phenomenon, and V later established V-Day, a non-profit raising money for programs that work to stop violence against girls and women.

The show is produced by Complicite, with the company’s artistic director Simon McBurney directing. McBurney and Complicite's credits include The Chairs, Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead and Mnemonic. The Apology marks the return of Complicite to the Royal Court for the first time in almost a decade.
