Chekhov’s play follows an aristocratic Russian family who return to their estate, known for its large cherry orchard, only to be crippled by debt and the likelihood that they will lose their home. Although it is a simplistic story, The Cherry Orchard encapsulates a world that is tilting towards revolution in the 20th century.
The History of The Cherry Orchard

A plentiful number of productions of The Cherry Orchard have made it to the UK stage over the years, with the first in 1911 at the Aldwych Theatre. The most notable production starred Zoe Wanamaker at the National Theatre in 2011.
