Matthew Bourne's The Red Shoes Tickets

Matthew Bourne brought his new production of the classic Oscar-winning film The Red Shoes to London’s West End this Christmas for an eight week run at the Sadler’s Wells Theatre between 6th December 2016 to 29th January 2017. The much loved dance-drama tells the tale of Victoria Page’s dream to become the greatest dancer in the world. With a life that is obsessed with dance, her ambitions soon become a battleground between the two men who inspire her work. Set to a score arranged by Terry Davies, utilising the enchanting music of golden-age Hollywood composer Bernard Herrmann, famous for his work with Alfred Hitchcock and Orson Welles, the music for Matthew Bourne’s The Red Shoe was played live by the New Adventures Orchestra. The Red Shoes was the latest in a series of ballets from the New Adventures Company, and sits alongside a huge range of other shows that have enjoyed great praise from audiences and critics alike, such as Sleeping Beauty, Lord of the Flies, Edward Scissorhands, The Car Man and Swan Lake. From the original film by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger in 1948, to this most recent production, The Red Shoes has been inspiring dancers for generation, dazzling sensing and breaking hearts. Lez Brotherston leads on set and costume designs, ensuring that the vibrant and enchanting beauty of the original is experienced in London’s West End this Christmas. Leading the coveted role of Victoria Page was the Australian dancer and New Adventures principal, Ashley Shaw, who has recently been dazzling crowds all over the country after reaching critical acclaim for her performance in Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty as Aurora. Ashley Shaw had performed with the company ever since 2009 and many fans would have recognised her from many of the company’s starring female roles. Sam Archer, best known for his work as the title role in Bourne's Edward Scissorhands returned to the company to play the impresario Boris Lermentov, while Chris Trenfield will play Julian Kraster. Matthew Bourne is considered by many as Britain’s most successful choreographer, staging many of the most imaginative productions that London has seen in recent years. With such a rich and delightful source material The Red Shoes at The Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London’s West End was a festive delight.
