The Yeoman of the Guard Tickets

London Coliseum

Gilbert & Sullivan’s comic operetta, set at the Tower of London, is revived in a fantastic production by the English National Opera.

Gilbert & Sullivan’s melancholic operetta

The English National Opera turns the London Coliseum into the Tower of London for Gilbert & Sullivan’s beloved comic operetta, The Yeoman of the Guard.

This tale of forbidden romances and unrequited love is the story of unfairly imprisoned Colonel Fairfax, who finds himself falling for Phoebe, the daughter of Beefeater Sergeant Meryll. Phoebe is desperate for Fairfax to be released so they can marry, so she turns to Jack Point for help. Jack is a roving performer who is more than happy to be near Phoebe as his own attraction grows… but will the story end happily?

The Yeoman of the Guard opera is arguably the most poignant of Gilbert & Sullivan’s collaborative works, with the duo well-known for their topsy-turvy, fantastical plots and happy endings. At the London Coliseum, the show is directed by Jo Davies, with Chris Hopkins conducting the duo’s playful but dark score.

The Yeoman of the Guard London cast includes Anthony Gregory (Colonel Fairfax), Heather Lowe (Phoebe), Neal Davies (Sergeant Meryll) and Alexandra Oomens (Elsie Maynard).

Enter The Tower of London and discover one of Gilbert & Sullivan’s most interesting and unique operettas with The Yeoman of the Guard tickets.

If there's ever a hook, I'm the one that gets hooked. And the hook in this operetta is I Have a Song to Sing.. I remembered absolutely nothing else from when I saw it before, but I remembered this. And I adore it. I was singing it all the way home. S Read more

Well staged. Beefeater costumes were traditional. Good depiction of the Tower of London. No really memorable songs or tunes which is why I dropped a star.
