What Is Trial By Jury & The Zoo About?
The Zoo follows two young lovers who ultimately become engaged. Set in the gardens of a zoo, Thomas is concerned that Eliza, a refreshment seller, only cares about his money. Duke of Islington, a nobleman, is also in love with Eliza and, to win her affections, disguises himself as an ordinary man who works at the zoo. It’s a story of hidden identities, secret marriages and mischievous mix-ups that will have you laughing out loud.
Trial by Jury takes us to the courtroom, where Angelina is suing her former fiancé, Edwin, for breach of promise. What unfolds in this one-act opera is chaos, joyous absurdity, and an unexpected twist as the jury is easily swayed by emotion rather than the facts of the case. Trial by Jury is ultimately a sharp, humnourous satire of the legal system.
