See Andrew Scott take on an epic European classic in Vanya at the Duke of York's Theatre. This ambitious new version of Chekhov's Uncle Vanya is a revelatory theatrical experience not to be missed, performed by one of our best modern stage and screen actors.

    What is Vanya about?

Vanya and his niece Sonya have been caring for the family estate for years. Their solitary watch has been broken only by visits from the local doctor, Astrov, but things are about to change. Sonya's father has arrived with his glamorous new wife, and rivalry, unrequited love and long-held resentment are rising to the surface.

Vanya is a brand new version of Russian playwright Chekhov’s darkly funny domestic drama, first staged in 1899. Olivier Award-winning playwright Simon Stephens (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time; Sea Wall) adapts the text for this new production, which is directed by Sam Yates (The Starry Messenger; The Phlebotomist), with design by Rosanna Vize. This acclaimed creative team breathes new life into a classic tale of love, art and violence in a production that promises to be a highlight of the Autumn West End season.

    Andrew Scott in Vanya

BAFTA and Olivier Award winner Andrew Scott performs every role in Vanya. A titan of the stage, he has previously appeared in Hamlet and Present Laughter, for which he won the Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Play.

On screen, Scott is just as prolific and has played unforgettable roles in two genre-defining television shows: he starred as Moriarty in the BBC’s Sherlock and Hot Priest in Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s breakout series Fleabag. His work has earned him a BAFTA for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Sherlock) a British Independent Film Award for Best Supporting Actor (Pride) and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Fleabag).

Don’t miss this opportunity to see Scott in his element on stage, as he powers through every emotion and beat of this epic story.
