The Truth in London
Back by phenomenal demand, Oscar winner Florian Zeller’s acclaimed play The Truth heads to the Theatre Royal Haymarket, a short walk from Trafalgar Square, for a strictly limited 12-week season in summer 2027. This “deliciously funny, superbly cast and expertly constructed, 90 minutes of sharp-witted entertainment” (Smooth Radio) explores love, lies and self-deception, starring Tony nominee Stephen Mangan, comedy icon Ardal O’Hanlon, Olivier winner Janie Dee and Miranda star Sarah Hadland. Are you ready to discover the truth? Secure your tickets to this “ingenious Rubik’s cube of hilarious deceit” (Daily Mail) today.
What Is the Play The Truth About?
Michel is having an affair. Or at least, that’s the truth, as far as he’s concerned. Married to Laurence, he is also involved with Alice, the wife of his best friend, Paul. When Alice suggests confessing to spare their spouses further deception, Michel resists, convinced that honesty would cause more harm than good.
As the couples’ relationships intertwine, truths are revealed, concealed and reshaped. Each character has their own version of events, and what seems certain in one moment is cleverly overturned in the next. With swift dialogue and escalating misunderstandings, The Truth examines how lies can protect, destroy or even sustain relationships, asking whether complete honesty is always the best policy.
The History of The Truth
The play, originally titled La Vérité, premiered in Paris in 2011 and quickly became a hit, cementing Zeller’s reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting contemporary playwrights. Zeller's acclaim grew further with his play The Father, which won the 2014 Molière Award for Best Play and was later adapted into an Academy Award-winning film starring Anthony Hopkins; he is now one of the most internationally performed French playwrights of his generation. The Truth first made its London debut in 2016, with the run at the Apollo Theatre in 2026 marking its first major UK revival of the production in a decade.
