What is the musical Beetlejuice about?

Adam and Barbara Maitland are a very normal couple. So normal, in fact, that even their afterlife is boring. When the couple die in their home during a freak accident, they remain just as stuck as they felt when they were alive. When gothy teen Lydia Deetz and her father move into the house, the Maitlands will do anything to reclaim their home. Enter Beetlejuice, an anarchic, millennia-old demon who offers to whip the Maitlands into scaring shape and oust their unwanted guests.

But Lydia has problems of her own; she’s mourning her mom and fighting to be seen by her dad, who is in denial of his grief, and the kindly ghosts can’t help but befriend the girl instead. Together, they devise a scheme to terrify Lydia’s dad into acknowledging her. But when the Maitlands fail to deliver the frights, Beetlejuice steps in and makes a deal of his own. Lydia may no longer feel invisible, but now that the Juice is on the loose, chaos is sure to ensue…

Who are the creative team of Beetlejuice on Broadway?

Beetlejuice has a book by Scott Brown and Anthony King and music and lyrics by Eddie Perfect based on the movie by Michael McDowell and Larry Wilson, which was directed by Tim Burton.

Scott Brown is an award-winning American author, screenwriter, composer and journalist. His credits include Emmy-nominated series Sharp Objects for HBO, Manhattan for WGN, Castle Rock for Hulu, on which he is also an executive producer, and has had work featured on This American Life.

Anthony King is an award-winning, Emmy-nominated American writer, director, and comedian. King is the former Artistic Director of the Upwright Citizens Brigade Theatre. His credits include Broad City, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, and Search Party. King and Brown have previously collaborated on Drama Desk nominated show Gutenberg! The Musical!.

Eddie Perfect is an award-winning Australian writer, musician, comedian, and actor. His credits include King Kong on Broadway, Misanthropology at the Sydney Festival, Shane Warne The Musical at the Melbourne Athenaeum, and he has appeared as a judge on Australia's Got Talent. Fun Fact: Perfect also played the title role of Beetlejuice when the show premiered in Australia!
