What Is Damn Yankees About?
Set in a period of the 1950s, when the New York Yankees dominated Major League Baseball, Damn Yankees centres on a middle-aged fan of the Washington Senators named Joe Boyd. Boyd trades his soul to the devil, also known as Mr Applegate, for a chance to lead his favourite team to victory in the pennant race against the New York Yankees.
As the story unfolds and the devil tries to tempt Joe away from his wife with a dancer, Joe begins to realise that fame, youth and sporting success are not as significant as the relationship with his wife.
Damn Yankees features iconic songs like “Whatever Lola Wants” and “Who’s Got the Pain?” alongside a whirlwind of temptation, ambition, love and sacrifice.
