Frequently Asked Questions
What are jukebox musicals?
A jukebox musical is a musical that uses existing songs instead of an original score specifically written for the production. The songs are often hits by a famous band or singer, but some musicals use songs from lots of different artists.
There are two main types of jukebox musicals. Biographical jukebox musicals tell the story of a real singer or band, using their music to explore their life and career. Examples include Jersey Boys and MJ. Story-based jukebox musicals use existing songs to tell a fictional story, with famous examples being Mamma Mia! and Moulin Rouge! The Musical.
