    Falstaff Tickets

Verdi’s final opera is a fantastically funny and human story inspired by Shakespeare’s famous knight, Sir John Falstaff.

    Verdi’s gloriously funny comic opera

A brilliant ensemble cast brings Verdi’s final opera back to New York this year. Falstaff at the Metropolitan Opera House is a gleeful romp through Shakespearean comedy and classical music.

Feckless Falstaff attempts to seduce two married women and gain access to their husbands’ wealth, but his scheme is soon turned on its head as the wives play him at his own game in this fantastically funny show.

Verdi’s last opera, and the third inspired by Shakespeare (after Macbeth and Otello), exemplifies his enormous skill even as he entered the twilight years of his life. Both deeply human and outrageously funny, Falstaff has a libretto by Arrigo Boito, adapted from The Merry Wives of Windsor and scenes from Henry IV.

At the Met Opera, baritone Michael Volle performs as haplessly scheming Falstaff. The Falstaff cast also includes soprano Ailyn Pérez as Alice Ford, soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano as Meg Page and mezzo-soprano Marie-Nicole Lemieux as Mistress Quickly.

This operatic comedy is the glorious finale in Verdi’s theatrical career, bursting at the seams with wit, wonder and good humor. Book Falstaff tickets and delight in Robert Carsen’s acclaimed staging at the Metropolitan Opera House.
