Giant on Broadway Tickets

Music Box Theatre, New York

Opens 11th March

John Lithgow reprises his career-defining performance as Roald Dahl, in this smart, provocative drama, transferring to Broadway.

Giant in New York

John Lithgow reprises his performance as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Matilda author Roald Dahl in Giant, making its Broadway premiere this spring at the Music Box Theatre in the heart of Times Square. This “slowly brilliant” (The Guardian), Olivier-winning play, unfolds over one afternoon, delving into the antisemitism scandal casting a shadow over Dahl’s legacy as a beloved children’s author. Lithgow’s performance is “riveting” (WhatsOnStage), and this whipsmart, “gripping and thoughtful” (Time Out) production was a huge sell-out during its run in London’s West End. Be sure to secure tickets today.

What is the play Giant about?

It’s 1983, and just before the release of his newest book The Witches, children’s author Roald Dahl is at the eye of a storm. An explosive article Dahl has recently published is being blasted with accusations of antisemitism, but he refuses to back down and apologise. As one tense afternoon unfolds, Dahl is caught in a battle of wills with his agent, publisher and wife. Should he publicly denounce his comments, or should he stand by them and risk ruining his reputation?

Giant is a compelling, darkly funny and deeply nuanced reappraisal of one of the UK’s most celebrated writers, packed with thought-provoking discussion about the junction between opinion, discrimination and whether a line can be drawn between the two.

The History of Giant

Playwright Mark Rosenblatt was inspired to write Giant by reports across the UK of Roald Dahl’s books being retrospectively edited to remove offensive content. The show is a dramatisation of a real period in Roald Dahl's career, when a highly controversial book review published by Dahl, of a picture book about the 1982 siege of West Beirut by the Israeli army during the Lebanon War, earned accusations of being anti-Semitic.

The production premiered at the Royal Court Theatre, London, in 2024, enjoying sell-out performances and critical acclaim across the entire run. Giant then received a West End transfer to Wyndham’s Theatre in 2025, earning five Olivier Award nominations, and winning three - Best Play, Best Actor for John Lithgow and Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Elliot Levy.

John Lithgow as Roald Dahl in Giant

The cast of the West End Transfer of Giant reprises their roles for the production’s Broadway debut.

Tony, Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG Award-winning actor John Lithgow (Killers of the Flower Moon, The Crown, 3rd Rock From the Sun) stars as Roald Dahl in a “career-best performance” (London Theatre) after originating the role in sell-out runs at London’s Royal Court Theatre and West End.

Joining Lithgow are:

  • Elliot Levy as Tom Maschler
  • Aya Cash as Jessica Stone
  • Rachel Sitrling as Felicity Crosland
