About The Hills of California

Set in the summer of 1976, Hills of California follows the Webb sisters as they gather in their old family home in Blackpool. Amidst the scorching heat and crowded tourist spots, they confront their past and present as their mother nears the end of her life. This intimate family drama explores themes of estrangement, reunion, and the bonds that hold us together.

The Hills of California boasts an exceptional cast and creative team, promising a remarkable theatrical experience. The play is penned by Jez Butterworth, one of the UK's most acclaimed playwrights, whose celebrated works include Jerusalem and The Ferryman. Directed by the renowned Sam Mendes, four-time BAFTA winner and director of films American Beauty, Skyfall, 1917 and Empire of Light, this production brings together a stellar ensemble cast featuring Laura Donnelly, Leanne Best, Ophelia Lovibond, Helena Wilson, Nancy Allsop, Sophia Ally, Lara McDonnell, and Nicola Turner.

Revisiting their roles from the original London production, the creative team includes scenic and costume designer Rob Howell, lighting designer Natasha Chivers, composer and sound designer Nick Powell, choreographer Ellen Kane, and music supervisor Candida Caldicot.
