What is the play Liberation on Broadway about?
In a basement in Ohio, Lizzie gathers a radical group of women to discuss their future. It’s the 1970s, and these women are going to change not only their own lives, but the entire world. Fifty years later and struggling with her own feminist journey, Lizzie’s daughter steps into her mother's memories and continues the fight. Can she reignite the spark of revolution her mother began all those years ago, and will she find the answers she needs about herself in the process?
Subtitled “A Memory Play About Things I Don’t Remember”, Liberation draws from playwright Bess Wohl’s own experiences with her mother's radicalism. This bitingly witty play explores the messiness, grit and humour of what it means to be a woman, second wave feminism and what you have to sacrifice to fight for your freedom. The production debuted off-Broadway with Roundabout Theatre Company in winter 2024 to critical acclaim, and now makes its Broadway premiere for a strictly limited season. Liberation is “a work of great ambition” (New York Times) - don't miss out, book today.
