What is the play Little Bear Ridge Road on Broadway about?
Against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sarah and her estranged nephew Ethan must reconnect in the outskirts of rural Idaho to sort through the estate of Ethan’s late father, Sarah’s brother. Secretive, sharp-tongued Sarah is a loner who thrives in isolation, while struggling writer Ethan is grappling with writer's block and the trauma of growing up gay in a religious town. As the two prepare to sell Ethan's father's crumbling home, they unravel a troubled history and find an unlikely connection in one another. In a vast, indifferent universe, these two lonely souls learn that perhaps love is truly the only thing that matters.
Named for the home of playwright Stephen D Hunter’s own father, where he first drafted the play, this bitingly funny and moving work is “a deeply beautiful piece of writing” (Chicago Sun Times). The play was workshopped with Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 2023, where it also premiered in 2024, winning the 2024 Jeff Award for New Work. Little Bear Ridge Road comes to Broadway for a strictly limited run - book early for this phenomenal piece of theatre.
