Ella Hickson’s New Born makes its debut at the Minetta Lane Theatre, taking you through the intimate lives of three people who are all connected by their decisions. Performed by Hugh Jackman, Marianna Gailus and Sepideh Moafi as part of Audible Theater’s season in the heart of Greenwich Village, book your tickets to experience fresh new work this spring.

What Is New Born About?

New Born intertwines three different experiences in one night of new work Off-Broadway. The new play follows a tree surgeon falling in love, a young woman searching for her friend on the prairie and a new mother who is consumed by an unlikely celebrity friendship. Although the characters are completely unrelated to one another, their choices are connected through relationships, identity, and change.

Hugh Jackman is a Primetime Emmy Award, Golden Globe, Grammy and two-time Tony Award-winning actor from Australia. His breakthrough role as Wolverine in the X-Men series launched an exceptional career in films, theatre and on TV. Hugh’s most notable credits on the stage include The Boy from Oz and the 2022 record-breaking Broadway revival of The Music Man.

Starring alongside him is Sepideh Moafi. The American actress starred in the world premiere of A Thousand Nights and One Day in 2018, as well as some exciting projects on TV and film. This year she featured in The Pitt, a medical drama on HBO Max in January 2026.

Marianna Gailus completes the cast, best known for performing as Andrew Scott’s understudy in Vanya, which played at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. She has also appeared in the Broadway production of Patriots, the Off-Broadway show cityscrape, and in the popular TV series Law & Order.

New Born Creative Team

New Born is written by the award-winning British playwright Ella Hickson. Her debut play, Eight, premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2008 before transferring to New York City a year later. Her notable credits in the UK include Wendy & Peter Pan, The Writer and an acclaimed adaptation of Sophocles' Oedipus at The Old Vic.

Ian Rickson directs New Born as well as Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes, which also plays as part of the shows presented by Audible Theater this Spring. Ian has directed thrilling work both in London and on Broadway, including Jerusalem, Hamlet, The Seagull and The Weir.

The rest of the creative team includes scenic designers Christine Jones and Brett J. Banakis, costume designer Kaye Voyce, lighting designer Japhy Weideman and sound designer Mikaal Sulaiman.
