Kander & Ebb pen a love letter to the bright lights and bustling streets of New York City in New York, New York at St. James Theatre. This spectacular new musical is sure to be the talk of the town.In 1946, post-war New York is being rebuilt and artists are emerging onto the streets. Jimmy Doyle is a musician looking for his “major chord” of music, money, and love. Francine Evans is a young singer from Philadelphia with a voice destined for stardom. Beneath the steel beams and rising towers of a resurgent city, the two begin to chase their dreams.
New York, New York is a soaring new musical based loosely on Martin Scorsese’s 1977 film, with an original story by David Thompson and Sharon Washington. Five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman (The Producers) directs and choreographs.
The show features an exhilarating score from one of musical theater’s greatest duos, John Kander and Fred Ebb (Cabaret; Chicago). Audiences will enjoy the smooth sounds of big-band classics including “New York, New York” alongside additional new songs and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton).
