The Lost Boys Musical Review at Palace Theatre New York
The Lost Boys Musicalopened on Broadway in April 2026. It is based on the 1987 cult movie of the same name. It follows the story of a mother and her two teenage sons who move to a seaside town to start again after her marriage breakdown. The Lost Boys are a local band comprised of vampires, and we follow the story of the elder son, Michael, who is attracted to Star, a near-vampire, and Michael, who nearly becomes a vampire too. His brother, Sam and new friends, the Frog Brothers, prepare to battle the vampires whilst their mother unwittingly becomes involved with her suspicious boss instead.

A true spectacle with a strong score and cast which deservedly won four 2026 Tony Awards.

I fully expected this show to win the 2026 Tony Award for Best Musical, and I maintain that it is my winner. There were many outstanding aspects to this show, in particular the Scenic Design and Lighting Design, for which the production did deservedly win both 2026 Tony Awards. The set is designed over three levels, which are all used throughout the show. Due to this, if you are towards the back of a mezzanine with an overhang, there may be issues seeing the top level. I realised this on a repeat visit and found myself bobbing my head down to try to see, so whilst acceptable for a repeat viewing, this may not be ideal for a first watch. There is also a quasi-fourth section where the band’s fans are all but in the audience, so there is a lot to see, meaning that seat location is important for this show. My ideal spot would be towards the front of the first mezzanine in order to appreciate the complete staging.
I had huge expectations of the score because the 80s and this genre are special to me. I am enjoying the music written by The Rescues more and more so I would suggest listening to it if possible before your visit for maximum enjoyment. The whole cast is strong, all with powerful characterisations. Ali Louis Bourzgui deserves his 2026 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical, as does Shoshana Bean for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. I’d like to give The Lost Boys band an award as a whole for their sets!

The “flying” must be mentioned because the full height of the stage allows for the vampires to take off. The choreography in the air often whilst singing is outstanding. This is enhanced by the Tony Award winning lighting which sometimes uses the contrast of blackness to enthral the audience.
This production may not have won Best New Musical, but it should not be overlooked – its a true spectacle!
The Lost Boys Musical plays at the Palace Theatre until 07 March 2027.
Where I Sat
I sat in M3 of the Orchestra. This was in an elevated side section. Seats were comfortable with ample legroom. There was an aisle just to the right which meant that I could look down it straight towards the stage, eliminating the risk of taller people in front blocking the view. However a small part of the stage to my left was cut off from view due to location of my seat. However this side seemed to be better than the equivalent on the other side, for this show, as I could see the elevator on the right of the stage, which is likely obscured by the relevant angle if you were on the other side.
