Prayer For The French Republic Tickets On Sale Now

Following a sold-out, twice extended world premiere at NYCC Stage I, rave-reviewed historical epic Prayer For The French Republic transfers to Broadway’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre for a strictly limited season. Spanning two centuries as a family grapples with historic and contemporary antisemitism, this Drama Desk Award-winning play from Joshua Harmon is a powerful story of history and home that promises to touch your heart and make you laugh all at the same time.

About Prayer For The French Republic

In 1944, a Jewish couple in Paris is desperately waiting for news about their missing family. Over 70 years later, their great-grandchildren find themselves asking the same question as their ancestors: “are we safe?”

Five generations of a French Jewish family weave through this moving and compelling play, in a rich tapestry that explores individual and collective history, home and the ripple effects of ancient hatred. During its Manhattan Theatre Club premiere, The New York Times hailed it “thought-provoking, heart-wrenching and wickedly funny”.

Cast and Creative Team

Prayer For The French Republic is written by Joshua Harmon, who is best known for hit comedy Bad Jews and Significant Other. Harmon’s work has been performed both on and Off-Broadway, and his mix of quick wit, sharp jokes and heartfelt, fully realized relationships is a winning combination that has seen him pick up two Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Play and two Outer Critics Circle Awards for Outstanding Off-Broadway Play.

It is directed by Tony Award winner David Cromer, who won accolades for 2018 new musical The Band’s Visit.

The cast of Prayer For The French Republic includes Betsy Aidem (Leopoldstadt), Francis Benhamou, Ari Brand, Anthony Edwards, Molly Ranson, Nancy Robinette, and Aria Shahghasemi.
