About Redwood

Redwood tells the story of Jesse, a successful businesswoman, mother, and wife who appears to have it all. However, her heart is broken. At a turning point, Jesse leaves everyone behind and drives to the ancient forests of Northern California, where a chance meeting and a leap of faith change her life forever. Amid the majestic Redwood trees, she embarks on an emotional journey of self-discovery, confronting her past and redefining her future.

Idina Menzel in Redwood

Idina Menzel is an American actress and singer, most known for her roles in musicals, and has often been nicknamed the “Queen of Broadway”. In 1996, she made her sensational debut as Maureen in Rent, transitioning the production from Off-Broadway to Broadway, and garnered her first Tony nomination. In 2003, she captivated audiences by originating the role of Elphaba in Wicked, which secured her a Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical. In 2013, she received an additional Tony nomination for her performance in If/Then.

She has also starred in numerous films and television shows, including Rent, Enchanted, Glee, and Frozen, where she voiced the iconic character Elsa. Now, Menzel adds to her impressive credits by starring in and contributing to the original musical Redwood, showcasing her talent both on stage and behind the scenes.

The Creative Team

The creative team behind Redwood is led by Tony Award-nominated-director and writer Tina Landau (Spongebob SquarePants the Musical), with music and lyrics by Kate Diaz. Idina Menzel, who stars as Jesse, also contributes to the concept and additional writing. Together, they have crafted a compelling story of self-discovery set against the backdrop of Northern California's ancient forests.

The acting, singing, and set were OUTSTANDING!! There was a lot of projections and bright lights so definitely look into warnings on their website if you have any type of light sensitivity.
