A play within a play, this satirical musical follows an ultra-progressive regional theater company who take The Diary of Anne Frank, and decide to reinterpret Frank’s harrowing true story as a hyper-empowering, intersectional, Afro-Latin hip-hop musical. As opening night approaches, the theatre company battle through cast drop-outs, and questions of taste and decency to ask - did Anne Frank have white privilege?
The History of Slam Frank
Slam Frank is based on a 2022 viral Twitter thread that asked whether Anne Frank benefited from white privilege. The show debuted in 2025 with a concert staging at Asylum NYC, followed by a fully staged developmental run, where changes were made throughout, later that year. The show gained traction for its viral marketing on social media and controversial subject matter, with some doubting that the musical was even real. In May 2026, a cast recording featuring the 2025 cast was released.
