Something Rotten! on Broadway Tickets
St James Theatre
The course of true love never did run smooth… but Something Rotten on Broadway is a veritable hit. Catch this tale about two brothers trying to upstage Shakespeare and inventing musicals along the way at the St. James Theatre.
To thine own self be true… unless you’re trying to copy the Bard! Fan favorite Something Rotten! will have theatergoers in stitches on Broadway. Following two wannabe-playwright brothers as they create the world’s first musical, the irreverent musical runs at the St. James Theatre.
The year is 1590, Shakespeare is all the rage, and brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom long to write a hit as catchy as A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Luck is on their side when a soothsayer hands them the perfect idea: the future of theater involves singing, dancing and acting all at once! Armed with this time-bending tip, the duo set out to write an entirely new type of show and learn a little about themselves along the way.
The show includes original songs “It’s Hard to Be the Bard” and “God, I Hate Shakespeare”, with plenty of tongue-in-cheek musical theater references to enjoy.
The show stars Brian D’Arcy James (Shrek The Musical, The Ferryman) as Nick Bottom and John Cariani (The Band’s Visit) as Nigel Bottom. They are joined by Christian Borle (Legally Blonde, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) who originates the role of Shakespeare.
Something Rotten! on Broadway is conceived by Wayne and Karey Kirkpatrick, who also wrote the music and lyrics. The musical features a book by John O’Farrell and is directed by Casey Nicholaw, a multi-Tony Award nominee who won for his work on The Book of Mormon.
Following brothers who really do make the most of “outrageous fortune”, Something Rotten! at the St. James Theatre is a riotous, off-beat musical that lovingly riffs on everyone’s favorite playwright.
