What Is The Sound of Music About?

Based on a true story, The Sound of Music follows spirited Maria, who leaves an Austrian convent to become governess to the widower Captain von Trapp’s seven children. As her love for music fills the hearts of the children and injects colour into this strict household, Maria also begins to break down the stern exterior of the captain, who has the looming war on their shoulder, and the pair fall in love.

After returning from their honeymoon, Maria and Captain von Trapp find that their beloved Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand that the captain serve in their navy immediately. Refusing to yield to the demands, the family devises a plan to secure their safety from the grips of the horror unfolding around them.

The musical features some of the most cherished songs in musical theatre history, including “My Favorite Things”, “Do-Re-Mi" and the title number.
