Many people know and love Donna Summer’s chart-topping hits, but few know the story of struggle and broken barriers behind her meteoric rise to fame. Summer: The Donna Summer Musical brings her journey to life in the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, Broadway.
Featuring more than 20 of Summer’s greatest hits, such as “Love to Love You, Baby”, “Hot Stuff” and “Bad Girls”, Summer: The Donna Summer Musical depicts a final “concert of a lifetime,” in which Summers recalls the astonishing highs and crippling lows of her life and career.
Director Des McAnuff (Jersey Boys) brings his pedigree with crowd-pleasing biographical musicals to the fore and presents a show guaranteed to be as moving as it is entertaining.
Summer features a trio of powerhouse vocal performers to portray three different stages of Donna Summer’s life; LaChanze, Ariadna DeBose and Storm Lever. LaChanze and DeBose were each nominated for a Tony Award for their performances.
The show features a book by Colman Domingo, Robert Cary and Des McAnuff, while the high-energy choreography is provided by Sergio Trujillo.
