A petty feud becomes a full-blown suburban showdown in this hilarious new comedy from Tony and Pulitzer Award-winner David Lindsay-Abaire.

The Balusters on Broadway in New York City

Broadway welcomes a biting new comedy with The Balusters, opening at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre in the heart of Times Square this spring 2025. This world premiere of this brand new play from Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire dissects the absurdities of middle-class civility in a small town Home Owners Association. Don’t miss this razor-sharp satire that turns suburban squabbles into all-out theatrical warfare - secure your tickets today.

What is the Play the Balusters about?

In a sleepy cul-de-sac ruled by bylaws, potlucks, and porch pride, order is everything. But when the Vernon Point Neighborhood Association gathers for their monthly meeting, order is the first thing to go, and when a newly elected board member proposes installing a stop sign on the community’s “most picturesque” corner, suddenly the gloves are off.

The Balusters is a hilariously relatable portrait of modern suburbia, where well-meaning (and not-so-well-meaning) neighbours spiral into petty politics, personal vendettas, and a battle over, yes, balusters. As cracks appear in their picture-perfect façades, it becomes clear that beneath the clapboard and cucumber sandwiches lies something far more combustible.

The History of The Balusters

This world premiere is a homegrown production by Manhattan Theatre Club, which continues its tradition of championing bold new American plays.
