Set to an explosive score, experience the defiant story of two extraordinary women’s journey from farmgirls to legendary outlaws. What is Wanted the Musical about?
Wanted the Musical is a new show based on the real story of Mary and Martha Clarke. Set in 1983 Texas, the two African-American twin sisters are determined to save their family and take fate into their own hands. In a bid to settle their mother’s debt and stop her losing her home, the sisters hide who they are and take what they are owed by passing themselves as white.
The History of Wanted the Musical
Originally titled Gun & Powder, the musical was created as part of the NYU Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program in 2015. The entire show was rewritten and further developed over the years until its sold-out world premiere at the Signature Theatre in Virginia in 2020. A subsequent run at the Paper Mill Playhouse took place four years later in 2024. There, it obtained a New York Times Critic’s Pick.
Wanted the Musical set its goal on premiering on Broadway in early 2025, with a pre-Broadway workshop scheduled in the summer. Now, it heads to the James Earl Jones Theatre, with previews beginning in October 2026.

- Martha – Liisi LaFontaine
Solea Pfeiffer will star in the Broadway debut of Wanted Musical. Her theatre credits include the first national tour of Hamilton and West Side Story at the Hollywood Bowl. She also starred in Evita, Hadestown and Moulin Rouge! The Musical. Sofia recently starred in Tyler Perry’s movie A Jazzman’s Blues.
Liisi LaFontaine will star alongside Solea as Martha Clarke. Her stage debut was in the West End production of Dreamgirls in 2016. Her other stage credits include Moulin Rouge! The Musical and Drag: The Musical.

Wanted Musical Creative Team
Wanted the MusicalOn Broadway features book and lyrics by Angelica Chéri, a real-life descendant of the Sisters Clarke.
Obie Award winner and Tony nominee Stevie Walker-Webb will direct the production. His credits, both on and Off Broadway, include Ain’t No Mo’, One in Two, and Black Odyssey.
The creative team also features Austin Cook as music director, Chelsey Arce as choreographer and music by Ross Baum.
