Getting into the Venue

The Grand Opera House York is situated on Clifford and Cumberland street and has three entrances, with step-free access available from Kings Street directly to the Stalls. Staff must be notified if you wish to use the alternative, step-free entrance. The Box Office and theatre foyer can be accessed from the Clifford Street entrance, but there are steps from here into the auditorium.

There is no lift at the theatre and all sections must be reached via steps. The Stalls can be accessed step-free, where wheelchair spaces are available. A drop-off point is located outside the theatre in King Street.

Customer Assistance

Staff are available to assist with navigation and the use of the alternative entrance. Wheelchair spaces and transfer seats are available in the Stalls. Staff must be notified prior to attendance and it is advised to bring a companion.

The Foyer Bar is accessed by stairs only. An at-seat service is available, but staff must be notified upon arrival. The Grand Opera House York provides several support materials to suit all access needs.

There is an accessible, private unisex toilet next to the street access entrance.

How to Book

For patrons who require assistance or wish to book access spaces, it is important to book in advance and notify the theatre of any special requirements. Discounted tickets are available for access patrons and a companion, with price depending on the show booking.

Section Accessibility

Stalls

The Stalls can be accessed via steps from the main theatre foyer, which is level access from the street. Alternatively, the Stalls are accessible via a step-free entrance on Kings Street. Wheelchair spaces are available at the ends of rows G, H, M, N and R. Transfers are available to aisle seats and it is recommended to bring a companion.

All steps are highlighted, and staff are on-hand to assist with navigation.

Extra legroom can be found toward the front of the Stalls and at the ends of rows.

Dress Circle

The Dress Circle is accessible via steps up from the theatre foyer and all steps are highlighted with handrails in place. There is no customer lift.

Extra legroom can be found on rows B and C.

Grand Circle

The Grand Circle can be accessed via 15+ steps up from the main theatre foyer. All steps are highlighted with handrails in place. There is no customer lift, therefore this section is not recommended for those with limited mobility.
