Warm your cockles at the Old Vic Theatre this festive season as their magical, smash-hit production of A Christmas Carol returns for its eighth year. Charles Dickens’s tale of miserly Scrooge discovering the spirit of the season is “pure joy to behold” (The Telegraph) on stage, in a play that fills the theatre to the brim with goodwill, merriment and the smell of freshly baked mince pies.

About A Christmas Carol

Tight-fisted moneylender Ebenezer Scrooge has only one thing on his mind - money, and how to make more of it. Even Christmas Day can’t stop him, a fact his employee, Bob Cratchit, knows only too well when he has to grovel for a day off with his family. But everything changes when Scrooge is visited by the ghost of an old colleague on Christmas Eve. Marley has an ominous warning: before dawn breaks on Christmas morning, he will encounter three more ghosts with a chilling message…

Charles Dickens’s beloved story about a man whose heart thaws as he embraces the spirit of Christmas has been a firm favourite for over 170 years. It is one of the most adapted stories ever told, with everything from musicals to Muppets bringing the cast - including Cratchit, Tiny Tim, and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come - to life for several generations.

This is a lovely, heartwarming show. There are a few departures from the Dickens' story, particulalry the playful 'trick' Scrooge plays on Bob at the end which I love. I feel Scrooge's redemption is a bit lost with a lot of crowd pleasing antics o Read more
