The classic festive ballet reimagined

Famed choreographer Matthew Bourne sprinkles some magic over London this Christmas, as his fantastical adaptation of The Nutcracker skates into Sadler’s Wells.

Combining Tchaikovsky’s classic tale with astonishing new stagecraft and ballet, Nutcracker! invites audiences on a journey into the Kingdom of Sweetieland – with a few new surprises for 2021.

Bourne’s production injects vibrant humour and fantasy into the tale of Clara, reimagining her as a young girl stuck in a Dickensian orphanage. As a magically animated Nutcracker toy takes her on a grand adventure, Clara’s newfound winter wonderland combines with a sweeping score to deliver a Nutcracker! unlike any other.

Choreographer Matthew Bourne and his New Adventures company are industry leaders, having developed ground-breaking hits including The Red Shoes and Swan Lake. For Nutcracker!, Bourne works with set and costume designer Anthony Ward to create dazzling landscapes, from a darkly comic orphanage to a kaleidoscopic confectionery kingdom.

Put your winter coat on and follow Clara into a land of scrumptious surprises. Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker! is a fresh take on the beloved Christmas show.
