Tom Hollander transforms into Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky as Peter Morgan’s acclaimed play transfers to the West End.

The kingmakers that transformed Russia

Go behind the curtain of Russian politics as blistering new play Patriots transfers to the West End, with Tom Hollander starring as billionaire Russian businessman Boris Berezovsky.

It’s 1991, and the Soviet Union has fallen. A new Russia beckons and in the scramble for power anyone’s fortunes can change on a whim. As oligarchs fight to gain control, one figure emerges from the crowd: Boris Berezovsky. Over the next decade, this powerful kingmaker will begin as the President’s right hand man and a staunch patriot, and end as a traitor and public enemy.

The Crown creator Peter Morgan’s Patriots play premiered at the Almeida Theatre in 2022, where it earned five star reviews and thrilled audiences with its timely, edge-of-your-seat political tale. It is directed by Rupert Goold (Ink; Enron).

The Patriots West End cast includes BAFTA Award winner Tom Hollander (Travesties; The Night Manager) reprising his role as Berezovsky, Will Keen (His Dark Materials) as Putin and Luke Thallon as Abramovich.

Enter a brave new world of ambition, politics and betrayal with Patriots West End tickets. This thrilling and relevant show is at the Noël Coward Theatre in 2023.

The main leads have transferred from the Almeida: Tom Hollander is brilliantly horrid, Will Keen is just frightening, Luke Thallon beautifully grows into a thug with an angelic face. This is quality theatre.

Mesmerizing and moving. Based on a real(ish) story, well-written and told from a Western perspective. The performances were excellent. I was trying to pick a favourite among the main characters but had to give up; they were all brilliantly talented. Read more

Had only briefly researched the play before attending and thoroughly enjoyed it. Tom Hollander and Will Keen were incredible. I learned so much from watching and it’s prompted me to do a little more research.
