Five music legends come to life in this thrilling one-woman tribute to the stunning talents of Judy Garland, Patsy Cline, Billie Holiday, Edith Piaf and Maria Callas. Playing at the West End’s Ambassadors Theatre, Songs for Nobodies is the simple and elegant new play that is guaranteed to capture the hearts of those who love the singers.
Songs for Nobodies is a collection of stories of everyday women who meet this amazing collection of divas, with well-known songs punctuating each scene. Performed by Bernadette Robinson, who fully embodies these remarkable women, the revue-cabaret style new play breathes life into the songs of the star-studded cast.
Robinson is an Australian singer and actor who has performed at Sydney Opera House, Adelaide Festival Theatre and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, and was nominated for a Helpmann Award in 2012. Writer Joanna Murray-Smith is based in Melbourne, with other credits including Honour, which has been produced at the National Theatre, on Broadway and in more than three dozen countries. Further plays include Scenes from a Marriage and Ridge’s Lovers. The production is directed by Simon Phillips.
The production at Wilton’s Music Hall received plenty of critical and audience acclaim. Robinson’s marvellous talent pays homage to the lives of some of stage and screen’s remarkable women in a compelling performance that makes an unmissable beginning to 2019. Brilliant show. Bernadette Williams is outstanding. The best one-woman show I have ever seen - well written, superbly performed and sung. You could really believe the five singers she was portraying were actually on stage! Highly recommended!
