Genre-defining musical 1776 is reimagined for the 21st century by Tony Award-winning director Diane Paulus.1776 is an exciting take on the events leading up to the Declaration of Independence through the eyes of Founding Father John Adams. As he attempts to convince his fellow Congress members to vote their way out of British rule, Adams is faced with tough questions about the cost of freedom and who exactly will benefit from it.
The musical first premiered in 1969 with a book by Peter Stone and songs by Sherman Edwards. It picked up three Tony Awards including Best Musical.
In this revival, Diane Paulus (Waitress) re-examines 1776 in light of how contemporary politics echo a defining moment in US history. The creative team includes choreographer Jeffrey L. Page and costume designer Emilio Sosa.
The cast, which reflects multiple representations of race, gender, and ethnicity, includes Crystal Lucas-Perry as John Adams, Patrena Murray as Benjamin Franklin, and Elizabeth A. Davis as Thomas Jefferson.

This show is fantastic. I got rush tickets, and I saw it in Boston before it came to New York. Even in a bad seat, this show is one to see.
