In the heat of summer the cicadas are singing and the Lafayette siblings have arrived at their late father’s home in Arkansas. They need to sort out his estate, but they can't agree on where to start.

Toni wants to spend time reminiscing about her dad and childhood memories. Her brother Bo wants to recoup some of the money he spent looking after the old man. Both are interrupted by the arrival of estranged brother Franz, who turns up late at night and discovers mysterious objects hidden amongst the house's cluttered rooms. Long-held secrets and hidden resentments bubble to the surface, and the siblings are forced to confront ghosts lurking in their pasts.

Appropriate is written by Pulitzer Prize finalist and Obie Award winner Branden Jacobs-Jenkins. Jacobs-Jenkins won the 2014 Obie Award for Best New American Play for Appropriate and An Octoroon. Confronting the intersections of race, class and ambition, his plays are some of the most gripping and acclaimed works by a modern American playwright. He made his long-awaited Broadway debut with Appropriate, directed by Lila Neugebauer (The Waverly Gallery) which opened at the Hayes Theater before transferring to the Belasco.

With eight Tony Award nominations under its belt including Best Revival of a Play and Best Actress, this is one of the must-see shows of the season.

Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Sarah Paulson stars in Appropriate as Toni. Paulson's major roles in shows including American Horror Story, Martha Marcy May Marlene, Twelve Years a Slave and The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story have made her a household name, and on-stage she is acclaimed for performances in The Glass Menagerie on Broadway and Talley’s Folly at the Laura Pels Theatre Off-Broadway.
