In 2025, the Palisades wildfires, in Los Angeles, burned for 31 days straight. In the tragedy, over 23,500 acres of land were burnt, and twelve people lost their lives. Countless others lost their homes, with Crystal and his family among them. He began writing the piece the day after losing his home, and has confirmed that the production will feature real video footage shot by Crystal during the event.

860 is written and performed by Billy Crystal. Crystal is an Emmy and Tony Award-winning, Grammy and Golden Globe-nominated writer, comedian and actor. Crystal made his Broadway debut in 2004 with his Tony-winning one-man show 700 Sundays, which at the time became the highest-grossing non-musical show on Broadway. He is best known for his roles in The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, as the voice of Mike Wazowski in the Monsters Inc. franchise and Throw Momma From the Train.
